Entrepreneur Al Anderson first owner, developer, of the Fun Zone 1936 leased the land from Washington to Palm, including E Edgewater and E. Bay. 1948 Anderson bought Fun Zone land. This is the only serious photo we ever saw of Al. He was always coming up with another idea to create "family fun" in the Fun Zone. Before the Fun Zone the hot spots in Balboa were the Rendezvous Ballroom and the Balboa Pavilion. As word got out The Fun Zone attracted the young crowds of Bal Week (Easter Week) crowding the beaches in front of the Fun Zone. Families vacationed down here and headed for the Fun Zone. Some 40 years passed the Fun Zone became rather rundown. A group of people tried to put in apartments with a view but the community said no and the Fun Zone was rebuilt and completed in 1986.
